Today Im analysing credits that profesional flim makers used in trailers so after this activity I will have an idea about how to used credits for my created trailers.
The first trailer that Im going to analyse is from a movie called Taken:
At the beggining appears the logo of production and then at the end of the trailer they include first the name of the movie and by who was did (In this case is a film by Pierre Morel). After this is include when the film will be on cinemas and the webside. Finally they include Production, Co-production, the participation of, the director, writtener and who produced.
The second trailer that Im going to analyse is from a movie called The mechanic:
At the begging appears a phrase (The most poweful criminals), after this phrase they include another one (Believe they're untouchable). At the end it appears the name of the movie and the directors. Then they include when the movie will appears in theaters and the logos of production.
After analysing the two trailers I liked the idea of adding at the begginig the production and name of the movie and then at the end the actors, directors, co-production and the wedside.
This is my preliminary storyboard.
In my group any of the members know how to draw but in this case Paloma did the drawings because all of us tryed to do a scene and she was the one that maked the best drawing.
I prepared a questionnaire to ask students from year 7 which title and font title they liked more for our film. We were in doubt with the four of them but with the help of this students we had a clear idea.
This is a general graphic with all the titles of the questionnaire
Now Im going to present all the titles and font with their proper graphs.
Evidence from the work:
We choose the title Wild experience with the font Broadway
In this post I am presenting a diagram about a general idea and the story that my team and I create for the trailers. This is a picture of our plot work
This is our final plot
Our movie
is about three girls that will live a lot of adventures together until one day that an adventure
will mark their life’s forever.
Today Im starting the planning and production of the trailers.
When we started design the logo we had some doubts because we didn't know which logo we wanted.
Paloma, one of the members of the group have a Pug, she gave the idea to use a photo of her dog called Felipe because he has a very funny face.
To crop the image and to add some clipart to give a cool aspect to the photo we used a software called PicsArt. Then we used InstaSize to add the photo some cool photo's effects.
We made it simple so the audience could identify it easily.
The name of our production is Pug's Studios because we love pugs and the logo of our studio is a pug.
This are different logos that we make for our Production:
After a time my group and I decided that this will be our logo because its the one that all of us liked.
Today Im going to present my team. We are three girls from the same school with the aim to pass our A Levels to go to university.
Im going to present Paloma
I know Paloma since 3 years ago, when I met her the first time I never thought she will be one of my best friends.
Last year she was also in my team for AS Media, it was lovely to work with her so this year we decided to work again together so it will be easier for us to understand each other.
Now Im going to present Carmen
I know her since 4 years ago. It will be very nice to work with her because she is very helpful and kind so I think that it will be very easy to make an agreement with her.
Now Im going to present myself: Rocio
I started in this school 7 years ago. I like doing this subject with my classmades, all together we make a good team and because we know each other a long time ago it will be interesting to make this subject together.
Like I wrote in one of my older posts, I will make 2 trailers, so today I will make a research about what is a trailer and how needs to be an effective trailer.
What is a Trailer
Is an advertisement or a commercial for a feature film that will be exhibited in the future at a cinema, the result of creative and technical work. The term "trailer" comes from their having originally been shown at the end of a feature film screening.
What makes effective a trailer?
It should be gentle
Good movie trailers are the ones that don’t need critic reviews or over stated titles to tell you the movie is good. For instance, here is the trailer for the upcoming movie The Hobbit. This film is highly anticipated and could easily add on quotes from practically any critic, but instead they let it speak for itself.
It should set up the basic premise
It tells us what we can expect to happen in the movie without giving away any crucial plot points. I think the Harry Potter movies have always done a great job with this. The trailers remind us where we left off, remind us that we’re still fighting evil and then leave it at that.
Introduce some, but not all,of the main characters.
Try to focus on one or two characters that might get the audience excited instead of bombarding them with the whole ensemble. The more you keep a surprise, the better reactions you will get during the movie itself. Take the latest Dark Knight trailer for instance. We see little glimpses of good and evil, but the trailer itself doesn’t go into depth about who is who. We’re supposed to figure that out ourselves, which makes this all the more powerful and exciting.
Use awesome music
An awesome piece of music can totally make or break a trailer. It doesn’t always have to be super dramatic, either. As long as the music genuinely reflects the mood of the movie, you’ll be golden. For instance, Where the Wild Things Are featured an awesome track from The Arcade Fire. Using that band and that specific song took a movie that might have otherwise been considered a children’s film and turned it into a trip down memory lane that any 20 something hipster would love.
Capture the mood of the movie
When cutting your trailer, focus on emotion instead of plot points. Make the audience excited to enter whatever world you’re trying to sell them. Pixar does a great job of this. Every year they create worlds we have never seen before, but their trailers make us feel like we’ve been there a dozen times and can’t wait to go back for another adventure.
What is the difference between a trailer and a film opening?
Trailer:
Shows simoltaneus scenes
Can show the end of the movie
Give an idea to the audience about the topic of the movie.
Today is a great day to witte about the lighting used in action movies..
There are two types of lighting:
High key lighting
Low key lighting
When we speak about High key lightingit mens that is a space which have a bright lighting.
This is a style of lighting for film, television or photography that aims to reduce the lighting radio present in a scene. High key lighing refers to images/scenes that are mostly bright with a range of light tones and whites and not many blacks or mid-tones.
This style of lighting is choosen by photographers and filmmakers when they want an image or story to be upbeat, optimistic or youthful.
When we speak about Low key lighting it means that is a space which have a dark lighting.
The term Low key is used in cinematography to refer to any scene with a high lighting ratio, especially if there are predominance of shadowy areas. It tends to be used in horror genres.
Low key lighting relies on shadows, deep blacks and darker tones, with very few whites and middle tones. Low key images tend to have a lot of contrast with the primary impact coming from the shadows.
Photographers and filmmakers tend to choose them when they want a mysterious or a dramatic subject.
Today Im going to writte three examples of locations that has been used in action films, I hope everyone likes it!.
Sanctuary Adventist Church:
One of the most famous scenes in action movie history was filmed at Sanctuary Adventist Church, a tiny Spanish-style chapel located on a lonely stretch of desert road in a rural section of Lancaster.
The bloody wedding day massacre took place there in Quentin Tarantino’s popular two-part "Kill Bill" franchise. In the movies, the church was dubbed the “Two Pines Wedding Chapel” and was located in El Paso, Texas. Producers have descended upon the picturesque but desolate site, which is a real working church, countless times over the years for such movies as "Crossroads," "True Confessions," "Desert Heat" and "Nurse Betty."
Garcia House: In what is arguably the most memorable scene from 1989’s"Lethal Weapon 2," Mel Gibson famously pulls the massive home of South African consul-general Arjen Rudd down a hill with his pickup truck. “The house on stilts" is formally known as theGarcia House and was built by prolific architect John Lautner in 1962 for jazz musician Russ Garcia. Thankfully, the unique eye-shaped structure is still standing (a model replica was built for the tear-down scene) and can easily be viewed via La Cuesta Drive in the Hollywood Hills.
Point Dume State Beach: Sadly, what is arguably one of the most recognizable and enviable residences in action movie history does not actually exist. When producers went scouting for a massive modern mansion to serve as the home of billionaire protagonist Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) in the first "Iron Man" movie, they could not find a pad that suited their needs. So they created one digitally using CGI and placed it on the southeastern tip of Point Dume State Beach in Malibu. All of the interiors were built on a soundstage. The mansion’s design was inspired by the architecture of John Lautner, most notably his Casa Marbrisa (also known as Arango House) in Acapulco, Mexico. The spot where Tony’s estate was situated in "Iron Man" can be accessed via hiking trails at the Point Dume Nature Preserve.
Im going to writte about the props used in action movies.
We can define props as objects that are used on a film, the most common ones used in action movies are:
Today Im going to analyse a scene from an action movie called Fast and Forious 7.
Firstly, Im going to describe the camerawork:
The use of Master shot to show where the sit of the characters is positioned.
The use of aereal shot from the two cars at the road.
The use of close up to the main character when he is looking at the family which is in the beach.
The use of zoom to the main character to show emotions. In his face we can deduce that he is remembering past remembers.
Secondly, Im going to describe the use of editing:
The use of shot reverse shot during the conversation between the characters.
The use of eyeline match when he is looking at the family that is in the beach.
The use of disolve when the man remember scenes that happen to him in the film.
Thirdly, Im going to describe the use of sound:
The use non-diegetic sound using sound mix and sound motiff. I can observe the sound mix when the music that is added in postproduction mixed with the ambient sound (e.g.: music and the sound of the cars) and the sound motiff is the music added in postproduction that is associated with the character.
The use of diegetic sound using dialogues between the characters and the voiceover used in the last part.
Today is a great day if you are thinkig to watch a film, Im going to writte about the best action movies of the 21st century.
In the first position I will mention Kill Bill: An assassin known only as "the Bride" (Uma Thurman) is betrayed by her boss, Bill (David Carradine). Four years after surviving a bullet in the head, she emerges from a coma and swears revenge on her former master and his deadly squad of international assassins.
I will continue with the second position for The Raid:
In the Jakarta slums, a derelict apartment building has become a no-go area - even the police are unwilling to enter. It has become a safe-house for the most dangerous killers and gangsters. A SWAT team infiltrate the building, under the cover of darkness, to remove its owner - a notorious drug lord named Tama.
In the third position is Mad Max: fury road:
Mad Max is caught up with a group of people fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by the Imperator Furiosa. This movie is an account of the Road War which follows. It is based on the Word Burgers of the History Men and eyewitness accounts of those who survived.
And in the fourth position I will mention Fast five:
Vin Diesel and Paul Walker lead a reunion of returning all-stars from every chapter of the explosive franchise built on speed in Fast Five. In this installment, former cop Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) partners with ex-con Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) on the opposite side of the law. Dwayne Johnson joins returning favorites Jordana Brewster, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Matt Schulze, Tego Calderon and Don Omar for this ultimate high-stakes race. Since Brian and Mia Toretto (Brewster) broke Dom out of custody, they've blown across many borders to elude authorities. Now backed into a corner in Rio de Janeiro, they must pull one last job in order to gain their freedom. As they assemble their elite team of top racers, the unlikely allies know their only shot of getting out for good means confronting the corrupt businessman who wants them dead. But he's not the only one on their tail. Hard-nosed federal agent Luke Hobbs (Johnson) never misses his target. When he is assigned to track down Dom and Brian, he and his strike team launch an all-out assault to capture them. But as his men tear through Brazil, Hobbs learns he can't separate the good guys from the bad. Now, he must rely on his instincts to corner his prey...before someone else runs them down first.
Today Im doing a research about the history of action films.
Early action films
Historians consider The Great Train Robbery to be the first action film. During the 1920s and 1930s, action films were often based in adventure films such as westerns. The 1940s and 1950s saw "action" in a new form through war and cowboy movies. The long-running success of the James Bond films or series (which dominated the action films of the 1960s) introduced a staple of the modern-day action film: the resourceful hero. Such larger-than-life characters were a veritable “one-man army”; able to dispatch villainous masterminds after cutting through their disposable henchmen in increasingly creative ways. The Bond films also used fast cutting, car chases, fist fights, a variety of weapons and gadgets, and elaborate action sequences.
1970s
During the 1970s, gritty detective stories and urban crime dramas began to evolve and fuse themselves with the new "action" style, leading to a string of maverick police officer films, such as Bullitt (1968) and The French Connection (1971). In the 1970s, martial-arts films from Hong Kong became popular with Western audiences and inspired big budget films such as Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon (1973). Chuck Norris blended martial arts with 'cops and robbers' in films such as Good Guys Wear Black (1977). From Japan, Sonny Chiba starred in his first martial arts movie in 1973 called the Karate Kiba. His breakthrough international hit was The Street Fighter series (1974), which established him as the reigning Japanese martial arts actor in international cinema. 1980s
In the 1980s Hollywood produced many big budget action blockbusters with actors such as Sylvester stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lorenzo Lamas and Bruce Willis. That same year, Sylvester Stallone starred in First Blood, the first installment in the Rambo film series which made the character John Rambo a pop culture icon. 1984 saw the beginning of the Terminator starring Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger. 1987's Lethal Weapon starring Mel Gibson, Danny Glover and Darlene Love was another significant action film hit of the decade, and another "buddy-cop" genre classic, launching a franchise that spawned 3 sequels. The 1988 film, Die Hard, was particularly influential on the development of the action genre. In the film, Bruce Willis plays a New York police detective who inadvertently becomes embroiled in a terrorist take-over of a Los Angeles office building high-rise. The use of a maverick, resourceful lone hero has always been a common thread from James Bond to John Rambo, but John McClane in Die Hard is much more of an 'everyday' person whom circumstance turns into a reluctant hero. By the end of the 1980s, the influence of the successful action film could be felt in almost every genre. 1990s
Like the Western genre, spy-movies, as well as urban-action films, were starting to parody themselves, and with the growing revolution in CGI (computer generated imagery), the "real-world" settings began to give way to increasingly fantastic environments. This new era of action films often had budgets unlike any in the history of motion pictures. The success of the many Dirty Harry and James Bond sequels had proven that a single successful action film could lead to a continuing action franchise. Thus, the 1980s and 1990s saw a rise in both budgets and the number of sequels a film could generally have. This led to an increasing number of filmmakers to create new technologies that would allow them to beat the competition and take audiences to new heights. The success of Tim Burton's Batman (1989) led to a string of financially successful sequels. Within a single decade, they proved the viability of a novel subgenre of action film: the comic-book movie.
2000s
While action films continued to flourish as the medium-budget genre movie, it also fused with tent-pole pictures in other genres. For example, 2009's Star trek had several science fiction tropes and concepts like time travel through a black hole. While the original Star Wars featured some of this kind of fighting, there was just as much emphasis on star-ship chases and dog fights in outer space. The newer films featured more light-saber duels, sometimes more intense and acrobatic than the originals. Some fan films also have similar duel scenes like those the prequel trilogy. The trend with films such as The Matrix and The Dark Knight series, is that hand-to-hand fighting and Asian martial-arts techniques are now widely used in science fiction and superhero movies. In The Fast and the Furious series the action film staple of the car chase is the central plot driver as it had been in Smokey and the Bandit films in the 1970s.
2010s
The cross-over of action with science fiction and superhero films continues with many Marvel Comics characters and settings being used for big budget films.
In my A Level I will record two trailers from a new film about action movies. Today I will writte about what is an action movie, how to diference action genre from other genres, examples of action movies with their synopsis, what is CGI and how has influence action movies. I hope everyone likes it!
What is a action movie?
Action film is a film genre in which the protagonist or protagonists end up in a series of challenges that typically include violence, close combat, physical feats and frantic chases.
How to diference action genre from other genres? (Compering with romantic genre and mystery genre) Action films tend to feature a resourceful hero struggling against incredible odds, which include life-threatening situations, a villain, or a pursuit which generally concludes in victory for the hero. Instead, if we compare action genre with romantic genre we can observe that romance films make the romantic love story or the search for strong and pure love and romance the main plot focus. The mystery genre is usually is about involving a mysterious death or a crime to be solved. In a closed circle of suspects, each suspect must have a credible motive and a reasonable opportunity for committing the crime.
Examples of action films
Fast and furious
A mystery gang of criminals is dedicate to steal lorries in motion from sport vehicles. The police decide to infiltrate a man in the world of illegal races to discover possible suspected. The young and handsome Brian went inside the tunning world where he meet a Dominic, the king of that world and the first suspected, but everything gets complicate when he fail in love of his sister.
Insurgent
Beatrice Prior must confront her inner demons and continue her fight against a powerful alliance which threatens to tear her society apart. 'The Divergent Series: Insurgent' raises the stakes for Tris as she searches for allies and answers in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago. Tris and Four are now fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine, the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris’s family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them. Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.
What is CGI? CGI is computer-generated imagery and is the application of computer graphics to create or contribute to images in art, printed media, video games, films, television programs, shorts, commercials, videos, and simulators. The visual scenes may be dynamic or static, and may be two-dimensional (2D), though the term "CGI" is most commonly used to refer to 3D computer graphics used for creating scenes or special effects in films and television.
How CGI has influence action movies: The advancements in CGI have made it cheaper and easier to create action sequences and other visual effects that required the efforts of professional stunt crews in the past. However, reactions to action films containing significant amounts of CGI have been mixed as films that use computer animations to create unrealistic, highly unbelievable events are often met with criticism. While action has long been a recurring component in films, the "action film" genre began to develop in the 1970s along with the increase of stunts and special effects.
